Quick Answer: I think the Mr. Coffee 4-Cup Coffee Maker is the best 4-Cup coffee maker
Being able to make a great tasting cup of coffee first thing in the morning is super convenient. A 4-Cup coffee maker is a great little addition for 1-2 people who drink coffee daily. You can even find them at a very affordable price. Here are a few tips and reviews to help you pick the best 4-Cup coffee maker that meets all your needs.
Important: Cup Size
Before buying a coffee maker, the biggest thing to check is how many ounces a cup equals to, when you’re brewing coffee. Most coffee makers will brew a cup of coffee that equals to 5 ounces. Meaning a 4-cup coffee maker is only going to brew you 20 ounces of coffee, which is about 2 – 2 ½ regular sized cups. If you were looking for something that actually brewed 4 cups, you’d want to get a machine that brewed 8-cups of coffee.

Things To Look For In The Best 4 Cup Coffee Maker
Temperature plays a huge role in making coffee. If your coffee isn’t brought up to the right temperature when you’re brewing it can lead to over or under extraction. Which can make your coffee either more sour or bitter. Try to look for a coffee maker that brings your coffee up to 195 – 205 degrees fahrenheit.
A timer is essential for those who love to wake up to freshly made coffee. Coffee makers with a timer will usually let you set a time 24 hours before you want it to start brewing. A super handy feature to have in a coffee maker. That being said, my list will not contain one with a timer. I will recommend one below the list though!
Choosing what kind of carafe is really up to you. Most coffee makers either come with a thermal or glass carafe. A thermal carafe will keep your coffee hotter for longer, but typically are harder to clean. While glass carafes let you see how much coffee you have left, but tend to “burn” your coffee due to the hot plate underneath.
A huge money saver when it comes to coffee makers, is if it comes with a reusable filter. They save you the hassle from having to order or head to the store to buy paper filters. Reusable filters are convenient to have, but they are a little harder to clean up than paper filters.
Coffee Maker Reviews
This Mr. Coffee maker is a no frills/no extras coffee maker. It has a single switch that has an indicator light that shows if it’s off or on. The water reservoir can be viewed from either side, so that you won’t overfill it.
The Mr. Coffee Simple Brew comes with a stain resistant heating plate that is easy to clean. It also comes with a removable filter basket for easier filling of your coffee grounds.
This coffee maker does come with the sneak-a-cup feature, which is my favorite feature in all coffee makers. Although, this coffee maker does drip a little bit when you pull it out from the machine.
My favorite thing about this coffee maker is that it makes very consistent tasting coffee everytime it brews. And my least favorite thing is that you’ll need a very light hand when pouring coffee from the carafe. It tends to drip down the side if you pour very quickly.
- Does a good job at making coffee
- Small Countertop footprint and headroom
- Makes coffee fast
- Consistent tasting coffee
- Drips down the side when you pour coffee
- A few droplets fall on the heating plate if you sneak-a-cup
The Brentwood Coffee Maker comes in a very stylish aqua color. The tempered glass carafe that it comes with is nice, letting you see how much coffee you have left. It also comes with a reusable filter and coffee scooper.
This coffee maker has a very quick brew time, while still providing hot coffee. It’s a really simple machine to use. Like the previous coffee maker this has a single on/off switch to operate the entire thing.
The feature that makes this coffee maker great is the reusable filter. The filter does a very good job of not letting coffee grounds through. I know I don’t like having gritty coffee in the morning.
The biggest issue for me, which is actually quite small, is that the pieces are not dishwasher safe. It is a small annoyance not being able to throw it in the dishwasher, but not a total deal breaker.
- Quick brew time
- Brews very hot coffee
- Reusable filter does not let coffee grounds through
- Warming plate works really well
- Great for casual 1 pot daily use
- Very light weight
- No auto shutoff
- Smaller than expected
- Not dishwasher safe
Like most of the other coffee makers on this list, the Cuisinart DCC coffee maker is operated by a single switch. It has the sneak-a-cup feature, if you want to get a cup before the brewing process is done.
Unlike some of the other ones on this list, the Cuisinart does automatically shut-off after 30 minutes. This is a nice feature if you don’t want to worry about if you turned off your coffee maker or not.
The stainless-steel carafe that it comes with has a dripless pour spout and knuckle guard to prevent you from burning your hands. When trying to get that last bit of coffee at the bottom of this carafe, it can be difficult.
One thing that I learned about this machine when researching, is that it does need a little more cleaning than others. It does need to be cleaned pretty often with vinegar and warm soapy water.
- Carafe won’t break
- Easy cleanup
- Keeps coffee hot longer in the carafe
- Does not overflow maximum coffee/water
- Makes pretty good tasting coffee
- Not dishwasher safe
- Have to carefully place lid on carafe or it’ll spill
- Carafe a little hard to empty
The Gevi 4-Cup Coffee maker brews very hot coffee and is easy to clean. The detachable filter and funnel are dishwasher safe. This is a permanent filter, but I would recommend getting #2 cone filters for this machine. It has been noted that this filter is kind of flimsy and rips easily.
The brew basket for this machine where you fill the coffee grounds swings out. This is a nice feature, since it separates the water reservoir and the brew basket. The Gevi coffee maker also has a non-stick heating plate and automatically shuts off after 1 hour.
This machine is very compact and stylish. It has a very small footprint, which is nice if you don’t have too much countertop space.
The biggest problem I think this coffee maker has is that the carafe lid doesn’t come off. It makes it really hard to clean the inside of the carafe. You can put a little more effort in with a brush to clean the inside and this won’t be a problem.
The Mr. Coffee 4-Cup Coffee Maker is going to be my favorite pick from this list. Although it doesn’t have any fancy features, like programming, auto shutoff, or a reusable filter, it does what it’s supposed to do. It makes great tasting hot coffee in a very timely manner. It’s super easy to use with it only having a single switch.
If you were looking for a 4-Cup coffee maker with all the other extras, the Mr. Coffee 4-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker. This one does come with a couple features, including: being programmable so that you can wake up to fresh coffee and automatically shuts off after an hour. This model is a little harder to find on some online retailers.
My pick from this list is the Mr. Coffee 4-Cup Coffee Maker as the best 4 cup coffee maker.
