Best single serve coffee makers That Don’t use pods!

Being a fellow coffee lover, I know how annoying and expensive pods can get. Most of them are not environmentally friendly either. So today, I’ve compiled a list of what I think are the best single serve coffee makers that are pod free on the market today.

With that being said, the Sboly Single Serve Coffee Maker Brewer is a highly impressive choice and is what I think is the best single serve coffee maker without pods on this list.

While it does not require the use of pods, you will still have the option to use k-cups and pods nonetheless. K-cups can be great for visitors as they are quick and easy to clean up.

There are a handful of other alternatives to traditional coffee makers that’ll also do single serve, keep reading to find out about some of them!

Single Serve Coffee Maker No Pod Being Reviewed

What Do You Need Out Of This Coffee Maker?

It can be hard to sort through all the details of the various coffee makers on the market today. Concerning the best single serve coffee maker without pods, a number of important features must be recognized. For starters, while you may be on the hunt for a coffee maker that does not require you to use k-cups, finding one that offers this as an alternative can be nice.

Water Capacity

Not all coffee makers are going to have the same water capacity. Filling up water in the coffee maker can be a hassle sometimes. It depends on how often you want to be doing this.

Getting a coffee maker with a larger capacity also means that it’ll be larger in size. If you don’t have too much room in your kitchen, you’ll want to look at the ones with smaller water reservoirs.

If you do have more room, getting one with a larger reservoir might not be a bad idea. You’ll have to refill less often.

Brewing Method

A key point before choosing a single serve coffee maker, is how do you want to brew it. You have your classic drip coffee, immersion, pour over, etc.

Of course each of them has their own pros and cons about them. Drip coffee makers are generally going to be the easiest and quickest way to your cup of coffee. Alternative methods do require you to be a bit more involved, but you’ll have more control over how it’ll taste.

It’s really up to how you prefer to brew your coffee.

Extra Features

Coffee makers can come with numerous amounts of extra features. They’re usually there just to make your brewing experience smoother and quicker. The key ones that I’d look for are:

  • Auto shutoff
  • Auto brew/timer
  • Brewing strength options
  • Self cleaning

Hamilton Beach Scoop Single Serve Coffee Maker

The Hamilton Beach single serve coffee maker is simple and pretty affordable. The sleek design of the stainless steel Hamilton Beach brewer will make for more than just a coffee maker. It’s also a great decorative item in any kitchen. It’s also quite a bit more durable being made of stainless steel instead of plastic like some other models.

Another great benefit of this coffee maker is that the filters that it comes with are clearly labeled for proper usage. Simply fill the filter to the clearly marked lines with your favorite coffee grounds and brew the perfect cup with no overflow.

This brewer can hold up to 14 ounces of water. This is the perfect amount of coffee for a medium cup. It’ll give you a little bit of room in a 16 ounces cup or travel mug, while still being able to fit some creamer.

In addition to brewing different cup sizes, it can also brew a regular or bold cup.

Sboly Single Serve Coffee Maker Brewer

This single serve coffee maker is another great option available to you. The biggest benefit of this brewer is that its user can either use k-cups or put coffee grounds directly into the maker. It gives you the flexibility of using either which is really nice. I know you’re here because you wanted something that didn’t use pods, but it’s always nice to have that option available. 🙂

The Sboly single serve coffee maker is extremely compact and can fit just about anywhere and in every kitchen size. A feature that I love about this coffee maker, is that it has an auto-clean feature built in. It’ll take the hassle out of you having to clean the insides of your brewer.

Another great feature that I think all coffee makers should have is auto shutoff. When you’re done brewing it’ll turn off for you. No worries if you leave the house if you turned off your coffee maker, because you know it’ll turn off by itself.

The Sboly is my favorite on this list because of the helpful features it has. It’s a very great choice for anyone who doesn’t want to spend too much, but is still getting something with quality and great features.

Mr. Coffee HotCup Single Serve/Pod Free Coffee Maker

The Mr. Coffee brewer is one of the more expensive choices on this list. is known to make some high quality and long lasting coffee makers. With that being said, I do feel this coffee maker is a bit overpriced for what it is, but is still a good single serve coffee maker.

A nice feature that this coffee maker has, is that it can hold up to 74 ounces of water. Having that large of a tank means that you’ll have to refill it less often. The downside to having that large of a tank, is that it’s almost the same size as a traditional coffee maker. If you were looking for something with a smaller footprint, this isn’t the one for you.

You’ll have the option to brew 6, 8, 10, or 12 ounces with this single serve coffee maker. If you drink a lot of coffee, this’ll be a pretty huge turn off. You can always just measure out enough grounds for a larger amount and then brew twice or however many ounces you want. This isn’t the most practical way to get coffee, but if you like this one that’s certainly a workaround for this problem.

Overall a decent pod free coffee maker. It’s a bit pricier, but has the convenience of a very large tank that won’t need to be refilled often. If you’re looking for something that’ll serve smaller sizes, this is a very good option for you.

AdirChef Grab N’ Go Personal Coffee Maker

The AdirChef is the most affordable option that I have listed. For those of you who do not have much to spend, this could be a great option for you. However, with a cheap price tag, problems usually follow.

One of the obvious differences between this item and some of the others is that the material itself is plastic rather than stainless steel. Even though plastic is a lot less durable, if you handle it with care, it should last you a while.

This coffee maker does come with a travel mug. The mug itself has a stainless steel exterior and a plastic interior. You can always use your own mug, but the one it comes with conveniently fits underneath.

What you’re getting is what you pay for with this little coffee maker. You’ll be able to brew a hot cup of coffee very quickly. It doesn’t have any of those extra features that some of the more expensive coffee makers have. If you want something that’s very affordable and makes hot coffee, this might be your best bet!

AeroPress Coffee and Espresso Maker

This is going to be the first alternative to the traditional coffee maker. With this coffee maker comes a little bit more hands-on effort, but the effort and involvement that this press requires may be worth its purchase. You’ll also have a bit more control over the brewing process, which means you can really optimize your coffee for your tastes.

If you’ve never heard of an Aeropress, it’s similar to a french press. This is an immersion type coffee maker. What’s different about this coffee maker is that you can brew in a variety of ways. It’ll take many different grind sizes of coffee, which means you can really control how your coffee turns out.

One of the great benefits of this coffee maker is that you can just stick in on top of your mug or cup. When it’s ready, all you’ll have to do is press down and you’ll have great tasting coffee.

This is a great option if you’re looking for something that’s durable, portable, and isn’t like the traditional coffee maker. You’ll be able to make many types of brews all with this little device!

Hario V60 Ceramic Coffee Dripper

The second alternative for single serve coffee makers that don’t use a pod, is the Hario V60 pour over. Pour overs are a great choice if you don’t want to deal with pods. They’re an all time favorite of a lot of coffee lovers.

For those of you who have never used a pour over, it’s a pretty simple process. You will have to be part of the brewing process though. All you have to do is put coffee grounds into a filter and into the pour over dripper. After that it’s as simple as pouring water over the grounds in a circular motion over a few minutes. Giving it a stir is a good idea also, just to make sure all your grounds are immersed in water.

If you’re planning on ditching pod coffee, the Hario is a good option. If you’re usually pressed for time and just want something that’ll brew by itself, the Hario won’t be for you. Other than that, it’s a really great alternative for brewing great coffee and gets rid of pods.

Ninja Single-Serve, Pod-Free Coffee Maker Bar

I’m not going to lie, this thing is pretty pricey. This one is quite a bit different from the other coffee makers mentioned before. You’ll be getting more than just a single serve coffee maker that’s pod free. The Ninja was built to be an all in one device.

Being an all in one brewer, it gives you many options for brewing. It’ll also let you create many types of drinks other than your standard cup of coffee. You’ll be able to brew either hot or cold drinks with this, letting you enjoy hot lattes or iced coffee.

Another great feature is that it has a frothing wand. The frothing wand will not heat up your milk, but you can heat up your milk on the stove in no time. It’ll give you great foam for your lattes, cappuccinos, or whatever your favorite drinks are.

On a side note, this does not make espresso. It’ll make you something similar to espresso. Kind of like a more concentrated coffee.

This is definitely not going to be the number one choice for a lot of people. If you’re looking for something that’ll let you make those specialty drinks like your local barista, this is a great option.

My Pick For The Best Single Serve Coffee Maker No Pods?

The Sboly Single Serve Brewer is going to be my top pick on this list. This item is durable, looks great, and is affordable. Along with all this, it can be used with or without k-cups.

It comes with a few handy features. It has a self cleaning feature with a press of a button and will automatically shut off. Little features like this really set it apart from the others on this list. I hope you found one on the list that fits what you need!
